Description

Texas is now the fifth-largest wine-producing state by volume and ranks third in overall economic impact when factors like tourism are included. One of the most important wine regions in the state is the Texas High Plains American Viticultural Area (AVA), which is the second-largest AVA in Texas and the third-largest in the U.S. This region spans nearly 8 million acres at elevations between 2,800 and 4,000 feet, and it produces about 80% of Texas’s wine grapes, with over 75 grape varietals cultivated. James Smith of Reddy Vineyards and Bob Bragg will share their expertise on the Texas wine industry and the Texas High Plains AVA, while guiding us through a tasting of some of the region’s top wines.
