Let’s go to dinner and a show! Before heading to the San Pedro Playhouse, we will have dinner at Maria Bonita’s Mexican restaurant. Then it’s off to the theater for Dreamgirls. Inspired by the Motown and R&B legends of the 1960s and ’70s, Dreamgirls follows the rise of the Dreamettes, a Chicago girl group of three best friends-talented Effie White, glamorous Deena Jones, and romantic Lorrell Robinson. Guided by their ambitious manager Curtis Taylor, the group’s path to fame brings success, heartbreak, and sacrifice as they chase pop stardom. Inspired by groups like The Supremes and The Shirelles, Dreamgirls is a vibrant tribute to American R&B music. The Broadway hit went on to win three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards.
