This course examines... read moreDetective Fiction has been one of the most popular literary forms since its origins in the 19th century in Edgar Allen Poe's short stories featuring C. Auguste Dupin. Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories took the genre to even greater popularity. The genre continued to develop and grow during the 20th and 21st centuries. This course examines the history of the detective story, looking at key authors, characters, and sub-genres such as police procedurals, the hard-boiled detective, historical stories, and cozies. We will also discuss why the genre has remained so popular. -
