Description
The American Revolution was the most significant event in American history. Without this victorious Revolution—no USA. This fact leads one to the inevitable conclusion that the battle campaign producing the victory was the most significant military affair in American history. That military confrontation took place in upstate New York in the summer and fall of 1777, ending with British General John Burgoyne’s surrender of his entire army, a first in Great Britain’s storied history. What made this particular Patriot victory the most significant in all US history? It brought France and Spain into the war on our side. Without their military and financial support, no Yorktown, no USA. This presentation will attempt to provide answers as to how the ragtag American Army led by mediocre General Horatio Gates defeated the best troops Britain and her German mercenary allies had to offer.
