Description

This course explores the unconventional and provocative career of Richard “Kinky” Friedman, a flamboyant Texas satirist, musician, and political figure. Best known for his sharp wit and boundary-pushing lyrics, Friedman used satire as a tool to challenge social norms and political expectations. His colorful persona and fearless commentary made him a cult figure in American pop culture, especially in Texas. In 2006, he famously launched an independent campaign for governor of Texas, blending humor, music, and political critique in a campaign that defied convention.
