Description

What makes idioms different from other common phrases is that usually, you cannot understand the given expression by its literal meaning. For example, imagine you’re learning a new language and hear someone saying ‘it’s raining cats or dogs, or tells you to ‘break a leg,’ this would be very confusing! And on top of it all, even if you ask a native speaker what that phrase means, he might just be able to explain it to you, but rarely does somebody know the origin story of a popular saying.
