Description
The term “Hispanic” is often used without a precise understanding of what it means. In this talk we will point out the mixed origins of people who are described as Hispanic, focusing largely on North and South America. Hispanics are people whose ancestry combines, in variable amounts, Spanish, Native Americans, Sub-Saharan Africans, and others. These components are themselves highly complex. We will discuss the histories of these groups and how they came to form the people that are described as “Hispanic” today.
