This class examines how criminal offenses are classified by severity within the U.S. legal system. We will explore the three primary categories of crimes: infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies, and explain how these classifications are determined by the state legislature based on the potential punishment attached to each offense. Participants will also gain an understanding of how offense severity shapes punishment and impacts individuals and society.
