Description

NASA’s “Artemis Space Program” represents humanity’s return to the Moon. This bold international initiative achieved a major milestone in April 2026, successfully completing its first crewed mission around the Moon and carrying astronauts farther from Earth than any human in over fifty years. In this presentation, we will explore why we are going back to the Moon and how the Artemis program is structured. We will review what Artemis I and II accomplished and look ahead to future missions. Topics will include the spacecraft, launch vehicles, trajectories and orbits, lunar surface vehicles, and surface facilities, as well as crewed operations on the Moon. We will also examine the program’s international partnerships and the contributions of commercial partners. Finally, we will discuss why establishing a permanent, operational human base on the Moon is critical to the future of human spaceflight and eventual missions to Mars.
